A Clearer Vision for a Sustainable Future: Focus Point Joins the UN Global Compact

A Clearer Vision for a Sustainable Future: Focus Point Joins the UN Global Compact

In conjunction with World Sight Day 2025, Focus Point Holdings Berhad proudly marks a significant milestone in its sustainability journey, becoming an official participating member of the United Nations Global Compact Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB).

The officiation ceremony took place on 6 October 2025 at Mid Valley Megamall, in conjunction with Focus Point’s annual World Sight Day celebration. The event was graced by YBhg. Dato’ Sri Suriani Ahmad, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, and officiated by Dato’ Liaw Choon Liang, President & CEO of Focus Point Holdings Berhad, together with Mr. Faroze Nadar, Executive Director of UNGCMYB.

This momentous occasion represents more than just a symbolic commitment, it reflects Focus Point’s bold step towards embedding sustainability and responsible business practices across all areas of its operations.

Our Commitment to the UN Global Compact

By joining the United Nations Global Compact, Focus Point aligns itself with the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, alongside more than 20,000 companies from over 160 countries. The UN Global Compact calls on businesses worldwide to adopt and implement Ten Universal Principles covering four key areas:

·       Human Rights – Upholding and protecting universal human rights.

·       Labour – Promoting fair, safe, and inclusive working conditions.

·       Environment – Taking proactive steps to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.

·       Anti-Corruption – Conducting business ethically and transparently.

For Focus Point, these principles serve as the foundation for a future where good vision and good business go hand in hand with good values.

Seeing Beyond Profit: A Purpose-Driven Journey

Focus Point’s commitment to sustainability is deeply rooted in its purpose, to improve lives through better vision while ensuring that business growth remains responsible, inclusive, and sustainable.

Joining the UN Global Compact is not just a pledge; it is a strategic step forward in aligning the company’s efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.

Through initiatives such as Focus4Sight School Vision Project, community screenings, and collaborations with local NGOs and government agencies, Focus Point continues to make eye care accessible to communities across Malaysia, bridging gaps in vision health while fostering awareness about sustainability and social responsibility.

Leading by Example

As an industry leader in the optical retail and eye care sector, Focus Point aims to influence and uplift the entire value chain by encouraging sustainable practices among its partners and suppliers.

“By joining the UN Global Compact, we are taking a proactive role not only in transforming our business but also in shaping a more responsible supply chain ecosystem,” shared Dato’ Liaw Choon Liang, President & CEO of Focus Point Holdings Berhad. “Sustainability is no longer an initiative; it’s part of our DNA.”

Every Story Counts

The timing of this milestone, celebrated in conjunction with World Sight Day 2025, makes it even more meaningful. This year’s theme, “I Love My Eyes: Every Story Counts,” reminds us that every act of care begins with love and awareness, love for our eyes, our health, and our collective future.

At Focus Point, we believe every story matters, from the child receiving their first pair of glasses, to the elderly regaining their confidence through clear vision, to the communities we empower through sustainable eye care initiatives. Each story is a reflection of our purpose and our passion for making a difference.

Through our commitment to sustainability and responsible business, we continue to champion the message behind World Sight.
